Vintage 1833 Map of Chicago Poster
Celebrate the humble beginnings of a global metropolis with this fascinating 1833 Map of Chicago. Labeled "Incorporated as a Town August 5, 1833," this pictorial map offers a rare glimpse into the early frontier settlement when the local population was just 350 people.
This beautifully illustrated map highlights the primary geography that shaped the city, including the North Branch, South Branch, and the main stem of the Chicago River as it flowed into Lake Michigan. Key historical landmarks are rendered in detail, such as the Second Fort Dearborn (built in 1816), the First Draw-Bridge, and the Temple Building of 1833.
Why You’ll Love This Chicago History Print:
-
Foundational History: Captures the city at its very moment of incorporation, showing early roads like the Road to Detroit, Green Bay Road, and the Trail to Danville.
-
Intricate Local Details: Features historical sites such as "The Forks," Mark Beaubien's Sauganash Hotel, and the city's first post office.
-
Authentic Heritage Aesthetic: The warm parchment tones, classic compass rose, and vignettes of early settlers and Native Americans make it a perfect fit for traditional offices, libraries, or rustic home decor.

FAQs
Please read our FAQs page to find out more.
What kind of paper do you use?
We don't use flimsy standard poster paper. Every map is printed on premium 100 lb matte archival stock. This is a heavyweight paper that feels substantial to the touch. We chose this specific matte finish because it holds deep, rich ink without bleeding and ensures your art looks crisp and glare-free behind glass.
Do your prints come framed?
Currently, we sell our maps as unframed fine art prints. However, we size them to standard dimensions (8x10, 11x17, 16x24, and 24x36) so you can easily find the perfect frame to match your decor at any local home goods store or custom framer.
How long does shipping take?
Because we print in-house, we move fast. Most orders are printed and packed within 1–3 business days. Once shipped, domestic US orders typically arrive within 3–5 business days. You will receive a tracking number as soon as your art leaves our studio.
How is the art packaged?
We know how fragile paper can be. Smaller prints are shipped flat in rigid mailers to prevent bending. Larger prints are carefully rolled with protective tissue paper and shipped in heavy-duty tubes to ensure they arrive in perfect condition, ready to frame.
What if my print arrives damaged?
While rare, shipping accidents happen. If your print arrives with any creases, dents, or damage, please email us a photo immediately. We will reprint and ship a replacement to you right away at no cost. We stand by our quality 100%.
